蘇奕瑄 Su I-Hsuan

　　大學主修微生物學。因為熱愛歐洲電影，不顧一切來到巴黎，從此就如海明威所說：「年輕的時候如果待過巴黎，巴黎就會一生跟著你。」 　　

　　在拍電影之前就寫小說，對故事有種迷戀，腦袋裡有一堆故事想拍想說，每天都覺得人生短暫。

Freshman Ji Wei, a passionate fine arts student, finds pure joy in painting. To defend creative freedom, she joins a campus strike and unexpectedly meets student movement leader Wei Qing. This protest marks the beginning of a new world for Ji Wei’s naïve youth.

Banners filled with slogans fold the shared emotions of revolution. Yet, as the flickering light in their hands gradually dims and the noise fades away, only empty beer cans remain on the balcony. Hidden in the silence is Wei Qing’s lonely and guarded past.

With unwavering gentleness and sincerity, Ji Wei softly brushes away the dust covering Wei Qing’s heart. She brings a bright sense of freedom, piercing through the darkness of Wei Qing’s nights. Slowly, she steps into her pale and barren soul, patiently waiting for the day when the ice and snow finally melt.

✦ Directed the 2023 film Who Will Stop The Rain, which was nominated for Best New Performer (winner at the Taipei Film Awards) and Best Cinematography at the 60th Golden Horse Awards and the 25th Taipei Film Awards. The film was also selected for the World Focus section at the 36th Tokyo International Film Festival. The following year, it was featured in the Harbour section at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, as well as the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (winner of the NETPAC Award), Hawai’i International Film Festival, BFI Flare: London LGBTQ+ Film Festival, and over 20 other international film festivals. The film’s Korean distribution rights have been sold.

✦ Directed the television film Where The Sun Don’t Shine, which was nominated for six major awards at the 53rd Golden Bell Awards, including Best Director and Best Screenplay, and won Best Television Film.

✦ Directed the series Detention, which premiered on PTS (Public Television Service) and was simultaneously released worldwide on Netflix.

Su I-Hsuan

Majored in microbiology in university. Driven by a deep love for European cinema, she dropped everything and moved to Paris. As Hemingway once said, “If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you.”

Before making films, she was already writing novels, captivated by the art of storytelling. With countless stories in her mind waiting to be told, she feels every day that life is fleeting.
